Food Fest

August 15th is the annual celebration of the founding of Arequipa. This year is the 462 yr. or thereabouts. San Lucas has a day of preparing special dishes. Each class picks out several and learns the recipes. A "picanteria"(typical restaurant) is set up with pictures, costumes, recipe are printed, and explanations and presentation are factored in, too. Judges this year were Maria Andia, Padre Ron, and Hermana Vicki. To our good fortune, there were numerous ties so more kids "won" this year.

Nice Touch

The team usually bring a thank you gift for the hosts. It is a nice touch and really touches he hosts.

Dances

The kids did the most elaborate dances yet for the Tios. The big star in many of the individual dances was Manuel. From pantomine to difficult footwork, he was great!

Serious Fun

All is not "work" on a mission trip. Lots of laughter and some good fun is an essential element. A trip to a restaurant in multiple taxi's IS an adventure!!

More Park Day

Park Day

We had a blast on the day at the park with the kids. We went to a special park reserved for teachers with jungle gyms, swimming pools, tennis courts, etc. Padre Ron was worried for awhile that we might have one fall in the pool as the kids spent so much time fishing out balls that "happened" to land in the water. Fortunately, no one fell in!!

New Stuff

María Perez was so excited when we bought San José new tables and chairs. She always wants to present the Casa in the best possible light. The kids have been excited, too.

By George, He´s Got It!

Edgar masters the winning design!

Titres or Puppets

Another component of our recent team visit was the confection of puppets with the end being to present a puppet show about the good samaritan.

CINE- "Kung Fu Panda"

The Roof Dog team had planned going out to a show with the kids, but as they were delayed, we hated to cancel plans and disappoint the kids. So, we took them anyway. As it turned out we had an entire theatre to ourselves. Everyone had a great time and really enjoyed the movie, too. Of course, NO ONE turned down popcorn and a drink!!

Derby Race

Our boys really enjoyed the races with their individually designed cars. It was a good lesson, too, for them to realize that the design could only be a fancy as they could fabricate and actually cut out! Diego gets a bit of help from Tío Pedro as Edgar works persistently on bringing his design to reality. Watch out, Larry! Model car building can be dangerous!!

Guest Preacher??

No, not really. But we were blessed as some of the team shared their testimonies on Wed.

Weekday Eucharist

Roof Dogs also were able to attend the Wednesday eucharist and reconnect with friend in the parish, too.

Friends

The kids have really connected with the "Dogs," and it is fun to watch the meet up.

Start Up

A shower, a meal, a eucharist, and a good night's sleep! That what it take to be up and ready to go on the second day. The planning on how to adjust the schedule to the shortened time was essential.

Welcome

Nevertheless, the kids were all primed and ready to go!

Weary

The Roof Dog team from Texas arrived a day late do to numerous difficulties. We definitely need to pray harder for "travel mercies" in the future!
