Water, Water Everywhere....
During our intercessors' meeting we received a phone call from Padre Juan Carlos whose bus had broken down on the highway to Lima. They were sending another one from Lima. Then after the meeting we heard that water was coming through the ceiling of the apartment below the Church's place in Garycochea. Padre Salvador and family had left earlier in the day and a water line behind the commode broke. Intercessors trooped to the rescue. (Hey, God, I though we were about PRAYING. What's up with the hands on part? A message, perhaps??) Anyway, we lifted up the soggy parquet and stacked it to dry after mopping up.
Turkey Day
Thanksgiving was celebrated in grand style. We had a healthy 24 lb. bird with stuffing, mashed potatoes, pumpkin and pecan pies. With us were Father Richard, Giorgianna, Ginny, Padre Juan Carlos and Maria. Father Richard brought the group a couple of years ago to Juliaca. He seems to think the weather here is nicer than in Minnesota at this time of year. I wonder why??

Another Debut
Additionally to Giancarlo's first service, Father Salvador who is visiting from Lima celebrated for the first time here. He was assisted by Deacon Maria who seemed very intent on seeing just how the new guy was going to do things. We're waiting to see if he becomes a part of the team here in Southern Peru. His wife, Denise, and his daughter, Magarena seem nice, too.
Debut
As Nestor has felt called to be more involved in San Lucas, Vicki has been asked to take over the music ministry at Cristo Redentor. One of her first moves was to ask Giancarlo to try playing at the 8:30 a.m. service. After a rehearsal or two she had him play at the early service with her. It was his "debut," so to speak.

It's GREEK to me
Padre hooked up with a taxi driver here in Arequipa to offer Greek classes to seminarians. We actually had 10 students sign up. Edison, the teacher, is a graduate of the Evangelical Seminary in Lima and his first love is Greek. He provided a daunting syllabus that causes several side glaces over to Padre. Edison appears to know his stuff. I heard seminarians muttering Greek vowels to themselves as they left their first class yesterday. alpha, epsilon....
Seminarian Drug Problem!
Two of our seminarians, Luis and Karola, helped me sort the two trashbags of sample meds a local doctor gave us. He did the same last year. We catalog them, note the expiration date, and, then when our Casas staff take one of the kids to the doctor, they show the list to the doctor and he checks to see if we have any of the meds needed. It is a daunting task at first sight! Gracias, seminaristas.(Did I get ya with the title?)
